A Case for the Death Penalty essays One does not have to like the death penalty in order to support it. We may not like the death penalty, but it must be available to punish crimes of murders, cases in which any other form of punishment would be inadequate. There are times when a crime is so bad that all of society, all who call themselves human, are repulsed. These are the times when the death penalty must be upheld, and enforced. There is no point in paying thousands of dollars to keep people alive who have multiple life sentences and no chance of parole. We are simply wasting our money and filling our prisons with people who need to receive the punishment that our courts doled out. We are constantly asking the voters to build new prisons, at a huge cost to society. Then we warehouse these people, side-by-side, with people who do have a chance of being rehabilitated. A lot of these people end up dead at the hands of these criminals. What part of this makes sense? We need to take responsibility for running our society and just do what the courts ask. No excuses! A human life deserves special protection, and one of the best ways to guarantee that protection is to assure each citizen that convicted will not be allowed to kill again. Some people argue that the death penalty is handed out in a discriminatory manner. But should we stop the government from pursuing justice based on perhaps one or two false, or unfortunate, cases. We should not throw out our laws just because of one situation. Others argue that the death penalty is simply state sanctioned murder. Many people in our country believe that capital punishment s not the answer to the problem of crime. They feel that it is cruel. Most other countries have repealed it as a form of punishment.
